On My Wishlist is a fun weekly event hosted by Book Chick City and runs every Saturday through Friday. It's where we list all the books we want but haven't actually bought yet. They can be old, new or forthcoming. I figure it's a great way to make me go through my ever-expanding wishlist and really look at some of the things on there.
It's also an event that you can join in with by linking your own OMW post with Mr. Linky at Book Chick City. If you want to know more click here.

I am a huge fan of illustrator, and now two time author, Kadir Nelson. His illustrations are beautiful, emotional, and vibrant. His picture books are always easy to pick out because of his style and use of color. What most stands out in his work is the sense of dignity and humanity that all of his subjects have. While Heart and Soul would be a book I would buy for the library instead of for my personal collection, I am looking forward to reading it.

Goodreads Summary:
In his Coretta Scott King Award-winning We Are The Ship, artist Kadir Nelson told the story of Negro League baseball. In Heart and Soul, he widens his scope to cover a wide range of African-American history, from centuries of brutal slavery to the Civil Rights era to the presidential election of Barack Obama. Nelson's focus is on African-American women and men who struggled through adversity while somehow maintain their integrity. This beautifully illustrated hardcover with a message for us all.

OMG the artwork is incredible. I normally don't do picture books. This looks like the illustrator took a lot of time. come visit me over at Livre De Amour-Books of Love.
