Mini Review - Pat the Zombie: A Cruel (Adult) Spoof by Aaron Ximm and Kaveh Soofi

Title: Pat the Zombie: A Cruel (Adult) Spoof
Author: Aaron Ximm, Kaveh Soofi
Publisher: Ten Speed Press
Publication Date: April 26, 2011
Format: Spiral bound, 20 pages
Genre: Spoof, Zombies, touch-and-feel

How I Got It: birthday gift (Yes, some of my friends are strange.)

Summary:
A macabre mash-up of the children’s classic Pat the Bunny and the present-day zombie phenomenon, with the tactile features of the original book revoltingly re-imagined for an adult audience.
In the hemorrhagic vein of other zombie parodies, Pat the Zombiepresents trusting toddler Judy playing peek-a-boo with a putrefying Paul. Grownup fans of Pat the Bunny (seven million of them) will find their favorite touch-and-feel features disturbingly re-created: Judy reaches for Zombie’s decaying jaw instead of daddy’s cheek; Paul caresses Mummy’s empty eye socket instead of her wedding ring. Ximm’s twisted wit, Soofi’s sick artistic sensibility, and clever packaging that mimics the original book will bring the undead lurchingly to life in this camp popculture romp.

Review:
Oh my goodness, this book is horrible but very funny.  The bunny and the parents have become zombies and Judy and Paul give you pointers on how to defend yourself.  The book retains the original touch-and-feel features such as the fuzzy bunny and the fabric flaps lift to play peek-a-boo with Paul.  Unfortunately, both children become zombies in the end.

Verdict:
This is a great book for fans of zombies or the horror genre but not for children (the cover is even labeled an "adult spoof".  It's a nice little extra something to add to a gift bag.

Oh my gosh! I used to love this book when I was younger (the real version) and now I'm a little scarred for life after seeing this cover:) I'm definitely curious now though...

@ Jenny - Well, if you're emotionally attached to the original version you might want to brace yourself. I chuckled through the whole thing but it was that weird this-is-funny-in-a-disturbing-way type of chuckle. It's a great one for zombie fans, though.

@ Blodeuedd - If you see this in the shop you should flip through it. Make sure to look inside the bunny on the second page (I missed this the first time around).
