IMM - Borders rocked this weekend!

IMM is a weekly meme hosted by Kristi at The Story Siren. The goal of IMM is to bring new books to bloggers' attention and to encourage interaction between blogs.

Official rules can be found here.

I stopped at The Borders at the Mall of the Emirates this weekend just to get a coffee.  Of course, the Starbucks was at the back of the bookstore and I couldn't help but notice the awesome sale they were having.  I wandered a bit and picked up three books.  I'd like to say it was a valiant show of restraint on my part, but The Kid was fussy and needed to be taken home for a nap.

Fragile Eternity (Wicked Lovely, book 3) by Melissa Marr
Summary from book jacket:
Seth never expected he would want to settle down with anyone - but that was before Aislinn.  She is everything he'd ever dreamed of, and he wants to be with her forever.  Forever takes on new meaning though, when your girlfriend is an immortal faery queen.
Aislinn never expected to rule the very creatures who'd always terrified her - but that was before Keenan.  he stole her mortality to make her a monarch, and now she faces challenges and enticements beyond any she'd ever imagined.
In Melissa Marr's third mesmerizing tale of Faerie, Seth and Aislinn struggle to stay true to themselves and each other in a milieu of shadowy rules and shifting allegiances, where old friends become new enemies and one wrong move could plug the Earth into chaos.

Crescendo (Hush, Hush, book 2) by Becca Fitzpatrick
Summary from back of book:
Nora Grey's life is still far from perfect.  Surviving an attempt on her life wasn't pleasant, but at least she got a guardian angel out of it.  But Patch has been acting anything but angelic lately.  He's more elusive than ever and, even worse, he's started spending time with Nora's arch-enemy, Marcie Millar.
Nora would have hardly noticed Scott Parnell, an old family friend who's moved back to town, if Patch hadn't been acting so distant.  Even with Scott's totally infuriating attitude Nora finds herself drawn to him - despite her lingering feeling that he's hiding something.
Haunted by images of her murdered father, and questioning whether her Nephilim bloodline has anything to do with his death, Nora puts herself in increasingly dangerous situations as she searches for answers.  But some things are better left buried, because the truth could destroy everything - and everyone - she trusts.

This last one had a cool cover and I swear the author shares the same last name as a hobbit briefly mentioned in The Fellowship of the Ring.  A cover blurb from School Library Journal calls it "a more literary R.L. Stine" and I'm hoping it will be a good middle grades book.  It also seems to be book 2 of a series, didn't know that until now.  Hope that doesn't mess me up when reading.

The Joy of Spooking Unearthly Asylum (The Joy of Spooking, book 2) by P. J. Bracegirdle
Summary from back of book:
Joy wells spends all her time investigating paranormal activity around her hometown of Spooking.  So when she hears strange noises coming from the abandoned Spooking ASylum, she's fascinated.  Joy knows all about the legends and stories that surround the place, but could it be that the old asylum isn't abandoned after all?  Then her pet frog, Fizz, becomes trapped behind the walls of the asylum, and Joy must mount a rescue operation.  But will she get out alive, or will she be trapped in the unearthly asylum forever?

Yesterday afternoon I mentioned the sale to my husband and he remembered that he had a Borders gift card.  We went back and he picked up a few things and then he asked me if there was anything I wanted to pick up.  I promptly handed him the stroller, took off and picked up the following:

The Game of Triumphs (Game of Triumphs, book 1) by Laura Powell
Goodreads Summary:
Cat proffered her right hand and he turned it over, pressing the stamp on her palm.  The ink burned on contact but the sensation was so brief she thought she must have imagined it.  All that showed on her skin was the smudgy black outline of a wheel.
He stared at her, unsmiling.
"Welcome to the Game."
At an exclusive Soho party one rainy night, Cat discovers a dangerous world unlike any other.  Soon, she finds it hard to stay away.  because in the Game, though the risks may be real, and the stakes may be high, the prizes are to die for...

I have a hardback copy of the next book but can't find it anywhere.  I love it, so when I saw the paperback edition on super sale, I picked it up.

Unwind by Neal Shusterman
Summary from back of book:
The Second Civil War was fought over reproductive rights.  The chilling resolution: Life is inviolable from the moment of conception until age thirteen.  Between the ages of thirteen and eighteen, however, parents can have their child "unwound," whereby all of the child's organs are transplanted into different donors, so life doesn't technically end.  Connor is too difficult for his parents to control.  Risa, a ward of the state, is not talented enough to be kept alive.  And Lev is a tithe, a child conceived and raised to be unwound.  Together, they may have a chance to escape - and to survive.

City of Glass (The Mortal Instruments, book 3) by Cassandra Clare

Summary from back of book:
To save her mother's life, Clary travels to the City of Glass, the ancestral home fo the Shadowhunters - never mind that by doing so she is breaking the Law, which could mean death.  Even worse, Jace does not want her there, and Simon has been thrown in prison by Shadowhunters who are deeply suspicious of a vampire who can withstand sunlight.  Luckily, Clary finds an ally in the mysterious Sebastian, who holds a strange attraction for her.  As Valentine musters a demon army, can Downworlders and Shadowhunters put aside their ancient hatred and work together?  And can Clary harness her newfound powers to help save them all - whatever the cost?

It was a good weekend.

@Mundi Moms - The bummer was that it was the only book in the series that they had, so I have to wait and buy the first two before reading this one. :) But I couldn't pass it up, it was the first time I'd seen the book in Dubai.

@lvng.books - I lurve Marr's covers, they're splendiferous! I'm looking forward to reading the Mortal Instruments, but as I said to Mundie Moms, I haven't read the first two books and the book store was out of them. I'll have to get those soon.
